Why do I need sun protection?

Using sunscreen isn’t just about avoiding a lobster-like glow after a day at the beach. The sun’s ultraviolet rays can cause many different types of damage; from sun spots and pigmentation to premature aging, deepening scars and all forms of skin cancer, including melanoma. In fact, a 2013 study showed that 80% of visible aging is caused by UV exposure, which is why daily SPF is really just an extension of your skincare routine*.

Why should I use sunscreen year-round?

Although certain types of UV rays are strongest in the summer, causing tanning and burning, others are more present year-round. A good way to remember the different types of UV rays is that UV raysTO is associated with aging, while UV raysB. It is associated with burning skin. To protect yourself from UVA and UVB rays, you should choose a spread spectrum sunscreen, that’s why our entire range offers UVA and UVB protection. Seriously, indoor sunscreen?

That’s how it is! If she drives, we’re sure she’s noticed her tan deepening on the arm closest to the driver’s side door of her car, proving that UV rays can go right through a window. The same applies at home; Although home windows block most UVB rays, UVA rays still break through and cause skin damage while you’re indoors. Additionally, strong fluorescent lighting and screen time can also expose our skin to blue light, accentuating the damaging effects of UV rays.

The good news is that our Sun Day Facial UV Defense, sun stick and Great Barrier Sun Lotion They offer defense against blue light in addition to broad-spectrum UV protection.

The bottom line

For optimal protection, we recommend using an SPF of at least 50 every day to minimize the effects of harmful UV rays. Although lighter skin types may be at higher risk, anyone can develop skin cancer, which is why it’s so important that we all protect ourselves.

And don’t forget that daily use of sunscreen also helps drastically reduce premature aging. Use a broad spectrum SPF every day and your skin will thank you later!
